ROCO congratulates ÖBB

ROCO congratulates ÖBB on a once-in-a-century engineering achievement.

With the opening of the Koralm Railway today, Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) celebrate a major milestone in the European rail network. Spanning approximately 130 kilometres, the new line—served among others by modern Railjet trains—connects two key Austrian provinces faster than ever before. At the heart of this landmark project lies one of the longest railway tunnels in the world: the Koralm Tunnel.

But it is not only ÖBB that are thinking big—ROCO is also setting a strong statement by presenting a new highlight: the double-deck Railjet by STADLER.

In the coming years, a total of 14 of these innovative trains will enter service, with further variants to follow for the CAT and Cityjet networks. From the end of 2026, they will be deployed on the West Line between Vienna and Salzburg, reaching speeds of up to 200 km/h and offering 486 seats, around 20% more capacity than current rolling stock. Barrier-free access, spacious multi-purpose areas and state-of-the-art equipment make them an ideal solution for all travellers.

The new trains also set new standards in comfort: quiet zones, catering areas, family compartments, bicycle spaces, free Wi-Fi, real-time passenger information, fully air-conditioned coaches, as well as power sockets and USB ports at the seats ensure contemporary travel at the highest level.

The KISS Railjet family continues to grow. Alongside the classic Railjet design, further variants in CAT and Cityjet liveries will follow. ROCO accompanies this development with passion and precision—bringing the mobility of tomorrow to your model railway today.

ROCO actively supports the ongoing development of the ÖBB fleet. The complete project will be presented in detail in the 2026 New Items Catalogue.

The opening of the Koralm Railway marks one of the most important steps in Austrian rail infrastructure—and ROCO is accompanying this evolution with both existing models and a forward-looking new announcement.
