The so-called "diving goggles" or "spectacle snake" was developed and built at CKD in Prague. The T 478.4, further developed from its predecessor, the T 478.3, was fitted with a more powerful engine and an electric train heating system. In 1988, the 86 locomotives were given the new series designation 754.
