The ROCO values:

Innovation

ROCO stands for advanced technology and is a digital pioneer in linking the virtual and real world of games (e.g. Z21 Model Railway Control).

Quality

ROCO focuses on valuable and manual work and combines high engineering expertise with the precise work of qualified employees.

Partnership

The common enthusiasm for model railways, as well as the high quality promise and an extensive service offer characterise the special partnership of ROCO with its trade partners and customers.

Enthusiasm

ROCO combines a special passion from planning through the development of true to the original railway models to the production and delivery of the finished miniature models.

From the sandpit to the innovation leader

The company was founded in 1960 and initially specialized in the production of plastic products (such as sand pails, miniature military vehicles, etc.). In the meantime, ROCO has evolved into a leader in innovation and technology due to continuous developments and is one of the world's leading providers of railway models.

In 1976, the first locomotives were produced. Since the beginning of the model railway production the models were characterized by their high precision and true to the original execution. This set the company’s high quality standards from very early on.

In addition, ROCO “Modelleisenbahn” has always thought ahead of its time and has pushed and challenged the market with many innovations. Particularly noteworthy here during the last decades are the following achievements: the unrestricted in length wagons, the true to the original tracks with less high rail profiles or the "hook-free" close couplers. A milestone for the future is the state-of-the-art Z21 control system, which for the first time combines virtual and real worlds of gaming, raising the playing value of model railways to a whole new level.

The ROCO headquarters is located in Bergheim near Salzburg. The company has a global presence and is part of the Modelleisenbahn GmbH, a company of the Modelleisenbahn Holding GmbH, to which also belongs the German quality manufacturer FLEISCHMANN.

ROCO sets the highest quality standards

For ROCO, quality production plays a very central role. Strong values and manual work is considered a very important position in the company. Only in this way can the delicately detailed, extremely reliable and outstanding functional miniatures be designed. The comprehensive ROCO quality management with internally and externally applied quality assurance measures is constantly concerned that ROCO locomotive and wagon owners receive the best possible quality and enjoy their models for a long time. So in this field ROCO is a pioneer in the model railway industry. For example, the ROCO plant in Arad was the first factory in the model railway industry to be certified by the German DQS GmbH according to ISO 9001.

A company’s chronology in express train speed

For almost 60 years, ROCO model railways have inspired young and old alike. But miniature models are much more than just a hobby.
The Roco model railways bring entire generations together.

1960s

  • Foundation of the company, which initially specializes in the production of plastic products, such as sand buckets. Soon thereafter follows the production of the first "Roco Minitanks" (military vehicles of various armed forces).

  • Production of the first model railways on behalf of American companies in H0 gauge. In addition, the first scale H0 goods wagons are produced according to European models from the own development. These are particularly successful in Germany due to the high level of detailing and affordable prices.

1970s

  • Tool takeover by Röwa and new edition of the models, which are characterized by particular attention to detail.

  • Production of the first ROCO locomotives true to the original models of the Deutsche Bahn (BR 110, BR 140).

  • The first steam locomotive with tender serie 58 of the Deutsche Bahn is produced.

  • Development of the electric locomotive Rh 1044 in gauge H0.

1980s

  • The first ROCO track with bedding is developed. In the meantime, there is a continuous program upgrade of the ROCO assortment, which is accompanied by constant innovations (such as: No shortened wagons in length, close couplers, true to the original track systems, etc.).

1990s

  • Introduction of the new universal coupling with pre-decoupling.

  • Entry into the digital technology.

  • Development of the steam locomotive 310.23 in high-end quality.

2000s

  • With the change of ownership and the incorporation into the Modelleisenbahn GmbH, modernization and innovation is initiated at ROCO.

  • Merger with FLEISCHMANN under the umbrella of Modelleisenbahn Holding GmbH. In addition, the rights are transferred to parts of the program of the company Klein Modellbahn.

2010s

  • New digital features and products expand the ROCO range.

  • With the steam locomotive series 10, a model with dynamic steam is produced in gauge H0 for the first time.

  • Development of the innovative Z21 Model Railway Control, one of the best-selling digital control panels. Another innovation is the smartRail rolling bed track, an intelligent track system that effectively puts model railway locomotives in the limelight even in the smallest space.

  • Development of the Beilhack snow blower, which is equipped with the latest technology. Micro-motors drive the paddle wheels and make the body rotate.

2010s

  • The first ROCO Camera locomotives are delivered. Using the WLAN module in the models, a live image is transferred to a smartphone or tablet. In combination with the Z21 Model Railway Control, the entire layout and all locomotives can be controlled on request with a driver's cab or conventionally via manual control units and tablets.

  • With the WLAN Multimaus an inexpensive supplement to the Z21 Model Railway Control is launched on the market. In addition, more digital components expand the product range of the Z21 Model Railway Control.

  • the first plant will be opened in Vietnam. In this plant mainly goods wagons, as well as some locomotives from the start program are produced. This ROCO factory is also gradually being expanded with the latest standards.

  • Delivery of the steam locomotive series 85, a top model with perfect detailing on a high-end level. The dynamic steam is further developed and upgrades the 85 series even more.

  • Release of the new Z21 App with many new technical refinements.

2020s

  • In 2020, ROCO will celebrate its 60th anniversary with an Rh 1116 electric locomotive in a special design that will be implemented in large and small.

  • The awesome functional model, the EDK 750 slewing railroad crane appears in many country variants.

  • The Z21 XL is developed for large tracks. With a power of up to 6 amps, you can also easily control any garden railroad.

  • The Z21 Pro Link is developed. With the Swiss Army Knife of model railroading, control is even easier.
