Prototype: Steam locomotive series 23 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft. On the basis of the already proven boiler of the BR 50 the Deutsche Reichsbahn developped a passenger locomotive that was supposed to relieve the Prussian P8. The two test locomotives from the year 1941 did not go into mass production because since 1942 only types were built that were important for the war effort. After the war the two prototypes came to the former GDR whereas the 23 001 did its service as the 35 2001-2 at the VES-M Halle until 1974.
